Speaking at drupa 2012, Dean Scarborough, chairman, president and CEO at Avery Dennison underlined how the company's relationship with HP for HP Indigo Digital Press solutions is driving further portfolio growth. Mr. Scarborough said "As the first Global Preferred Pressure-sensitive Media Partner for HP Indigo products, we offer the largest number of HP Indigo-certified media worldwide. And we continue to invest in our Indigo portfolio, with expansions in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, including China."

During the show, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials announced the European introduction of an HP Indigo-certified digital print-ready version of its high-performance Global MDO film. Avery Dennison Global MDO Clear and White labelling films for home and personal care products offer better label clarity and conformability for improved performance and enhanced sustainability.

“The new Global MDO pressure-sensitive digital facestock provides enhanced productivity for label printers and brand owners looking for brand distinction with operational effectiveness,” said Georg Mueller-Hof, business development director of Avery Dennison Labels and Packaging Materials Europe. “It is a digital top-coated product with excellent print quality and optimal ink adhesion. The exceptional strength provided by the 50 Micron MDO film and 23-micron polyester liner virtually eliminates line shutdowns due to web breaks.”

Avery Dennison research shows that labelling and packaging brand owners are exploring new methods to increase product visibility and differentiation in a crowded consumer packaging marketplace while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

“The Global MDO digital facestock also makes a significant contribution to the industry’s levels of sustainability,” Mueller-Hof added. “Based on the findings of Avery Dennison™ Greenprint, compared to today’s industry-standard PE85 products, it produces 40 percent less solid waste, consumes 37 percent less energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent because of its lower material usage.”

In addition, Avery Dennison's new S7000 adhesive technology increases productivity with up to 50-percent lower ooze and the elimination of adhesive contamination in critical processes. The complete construction is approximately 50-percent thinner than today's standard product of PE85 film on glassine liner, so Global MDO delivers almost twice as many labels per roll, thereby delivering overall better operational efficiency throughout the supply chain.

The new Global MDO digital facestock, can be ordered in clear and white, and enables label and packaging brand owners to fully leverage their SKU strategies by taking advantage of the speed-to-market capabilities of HP Indigo digital printing.

The new facestock joins the Company’s extensive portfolio of HP Indigo-certified substrates, all of which are available in minimum order quantities.
Visitors to drupa will be able to learn more about the new (and existing) products at the HP booth, No. E07, Hall 07a. Here, the HP Indigo presses will be running Global MDO and showcasing graphic embellishments produced on HP Indigo presses.
