Sustainable Origami-Inspired Food Box by Guactruck
Soon to open in August 2011, Guactruck is a design-focused mobile food truck in Manila serving Mexican inspired Filipino rice dishes. The owners wanted the package design to focus on creativity and aesthetics, as well as highlight the environmental aspect commonly associated with packaging.
One of the owners of Guactruck took on this challenge and came up with a food packaging that incorporates sustainability in three ways.
- Package Design – Using only one piece of cardboard, the simple origami inspired design resembles a bud blossoming into a flower. In hindsight, the design reflects the organic journey of the owners of Guactruck.
- Materials – Paper, no glue or plastic, making it biodegradable and easier to recycle.
- Life Cycle – We believe that we are responsible for everything that comes out of our truck, may it be waste, food or packaging. Therefore, we highly encourage our customers to return the packaging to us with the incentive of obtaining a free meal in exchange for ten returned packaging. This way, we not only raise awareness on the issue of sustainable packaging and recycling, but also cultivate a habit of conscious and conscientious consumerism.
