Obolon fosters partnership with German Bitburger Braugruppe
Bitburger is a best-selling draught beer in Germany. Such popularity gave the brand the short name Bit. This was also helped by the brief slogan ‘Bitte ein Bit’, which means ‘Bit, please’.
Obolon cooperated with the German brewer Bitburger Braugruppe during 2009, setting up joint production of high-quality super premium Bitburger beer in 0.5l cans. This period was characterized by the financial recession, which led to a 1% drop in the premium segment on average.
Today the premium and licensed beer market in Ukraine is showing an upward trend. Over the last few months, a 12.6% increase in the overall market volume has been observed (as compared to 11.4% for the same period last year). The beginning of 2010 has been more successful for Bitburger sales in Ukraine.
The growing potential of the premium segment in Ukraine contributed to the launch of the legendary German beer in Ukraine in a more accessible container for our customers – 0.5l glass bottle. The first bottle was filled on May 28, 2010, in the presence of representatives of Bitburger Braugruppe, who monitored the entire process. Bitburger Premium bottled beer received the highest score of 14 points.
According to Obolon’s brewers, it wasn’t an easy task to get a license for bottling the beer in a new container. First of all, Björn Stegemeyer, Quality Director, and D. Kusche, Chief Brewer, ran a series of tests in the units intended for bottling the German beer. The test results confirmed the expectations of the German brewers: Obolon can be entrusted with bottling the legendary German beer.
By the way, the quality of Bitburger beer during each bottling operation is controlled by the German company in Bitburg. The products can be offered for sale only after official authorization by the German party. Production of Bitburger beer involves the use of totally new containers that are packed in cardboard boxes. The design component should be separately noted. A special feature of the label is the use of a unique golden color. From now on the appearance of Bitburger beer produced in Ukraine will be identical to the original German label.
During the first bottling, the representatives of the German company selected all samples of the components (labels, crown corks, bottles, etc.) for examination and analysis. As a result, the quality of all components received high ratings at the plant in Bitburg.
