Zip-Pak and Hayssen have developed an overwrap machine using a new sliding seal, allowing processors a greater choice in the type of packaging they can use for sliced and blocked food products.

Zip-Pak''s QuickZip Slider product is designed to meet increasing consumer demand for convenience foods. Consumers are also attracted by ability to reseal unused portions of multi-serving products in the same package. "The new Zip-Pak Slider offers all the benefits of slider technology to a new package format, allowing brand owners to differentiate their overwrap packages," the companies stated. The overwrap slider and machine are suitable for products like sliced and block cheese and pre-cooked bacon that are packaged flat, stacked or shingled.

The Zip-Pak development means its Slider product can be applied with horizontal form, fill and seal machines. The new zipper is the first to bring slider's opening and resealing convenience to products in overwrap package formats, Zip-Pak stated. Hermetic sealing ensures complete closure so that oxygen stays out of packages prior to opening. The sealing lengthens product shelf life.
