Porto Alegre Braskem has developed a new type of polypropylene which challenges PET in the rigid packaging market for still drinks, and cleaning and personal hygiene products. The company estimates demand at 60 thousand tonnes and R$ 300 million (about US$ 100 million) a year, and intends to achieve 50% of this sector in volume and sales within 2 to 3 years, said Luiz de Mendonça, Vice President of the polyolefin’s business.
