Canada's Norampac acquires Johnson Corrugated Products
Montreal-based Norampac, Inc., acquires the shares of Johnson Corrugated Products Corp., an independent corrugated converting plant in Thompson, CT. The investment will allow Norampac to increase its integration level and North American presence, the company says.
The Thompson facility has an annual capacity of more than 750 million sq ft and a workforce of about 100 employees. Founded in 1964, the plant specializes in all kinds of corrugated boxes, from traditional regular-slotted cases to die-cut or extra-large boxes. Its strategic location will allow the plant to draw on the synergies of the Buffalo, New York, Leominster and Schenectady plants of Norampac.
"This new acquisition is an interesting opportunity for us to increase our presence in the northeastern US and fits perfectly with our development strategy," explains Marc-André Dépin, Norampac president/CEO.
Norampac, which owns eight containerboard mills and 25 corrugated plants in Canada, the US and France, is a joint venture between Domtar, Inc., and Cascades, Inc.
