Jokey is now offering plastic packaging certified according to ISCC PLUS
The Jokey Group, a leading international company in the field of plastic packaging, is now offering products that are certified according to ISCC PLUS. Four locations, three of which are in Germany and one which is in Spain, have been awarded ISCC PLUS certification. The certificate attests to the use and traceability of recycled materials on a mass balance basis. This step represents another contribution by the Jokey Group to encouraging a sustainable circular economy. This builds further on the targets in the company’s sustainability manifesto, the Jokey Eco Concept 2.0.
The Jokey Group has begun processing sustainable plastics at its ISCC certified locations, the raw materials of which are obtained through chemical recycling or from organic waste materials. Jokey is now offering its customers in the filling industry an environmentally friendly packaging solution which is particularly well suited for use in the food sector. In the non-food sector, Jokey has now been manufacturing packaging from recycled plastics, known as recyclates, since the early 1990s. In order to achieve this, post-consumer recyclates from household collections are recovered through factory-based mechanical recycling. Due to increased levels of consumer awareness, paint, construction materials and chemicals, among other things, are increasingly being packed in recycled material
With ISCC PLUS, the Jokey Group has chosen a recognized standard for the certification of production processes on a mass balance basis. ISCC PLUS is an international certification system for all sustainable feedstocks, including agricultural and forestry biomass and circular materials. The ISCC PLUS certification system requires the full traceability of the sustainable materials and is verified by independent auditors.
“We are pleased that the Jokey Group is ISCC certified at four locations and supports the ISCC PLUS standard for the circular economy and the bioeconomy. The ISCC PLUS certification provides confirmation to companies along the supply chain that the mass balance of recycled and bio-based materials is following clear rules,” explains Dr Jan Henke, Director ISCC System.
The Jokey Eco Concept 2.0 provides the framework for the new ISCC PLUS certified plastic packaging, which is used in the manufacturing of sustainable packaging in addition to the secondary raw materials that are mainly recovered from material recycling processes. The Eco Concept also focuses primarily on sustainable design to strengthen the circular economy. “Transparency plays an important role for us with the use of sustainable materials in the value chain,” emphasizes Jens Stadter, CEO of the Jokey Group. “Certifications such as ISCC PLUS are therefore an essential part of the Jokey Eco Concept. They are firmly anchored in our sustainability strategy, just like the creation of recognized standards”.
