Adco Industries adds fleet of Heidelberg equipment

26.02.2004

Adco Industries, a converter of flexographically-printed, point-of-purchase sales promotion products as well as labels, recently installed a fleet of new Heidelberg equipment, including a Speedmaster 52 5-color sheetfed-offset press to provide a greater range of services to its customers.

Based in Garland, Texas, Adco completed the installation this month of more than 15 pieces of Heidelberg prepress, press and postpress equipment as part of a new marketing campaign called Trigger Impulse Purchasing, which is designed to build the company's brand name and extend its presence in the point-of-purchase specialty niche. "In the retail world, it is critical that promotional materials are eye-catching, meet shoppers' needs and stimulate purchases," says Mike Davis, dir.-marketing for Adco Industries. "With our new Heidelberg equipment, we are now a 'one-stop shop' so we can do it all."

Along with the Speedmaster 52 press, Adco installed a Prinance MIS management information system for estimating, quoting and cost analysis, a 20-in. Stahlfolder, a Polar 66 paper cutter, a Polar 115 cutter with an extended two-meter back table, a Polar R-6 jogger, a Polar scale weight-counting system, a Polar stacklift and pile turner, a Prosetter 52 semi-automatic direct-to-plate system with in-line punching, a MetaDimension software package to run the Prosetter, Preflow 3 software, which includes SuperTrap, Super Color Pitstop Server and Pitstop Professional pre-flight station, a Signastation imposition station, and Heidelberg color management package with Printopen software. With the new equipment, Adco is able to provide higher quality and a greater range of service, including offset and silkscreen printing in addition to its flagship flexo printing. Davis said he expects these new service offerings to help increase efficiencies during makeready and drive revenue growth between 30-40% in 2004. Adco recorded sales of $20 million last year.

"The new press allows us to take on additional capacity and add more shifts if the need arises," Davis says. "While we can definitely handle a lot more, it is even more important that the Heidelberg equipment allows us to produce the high-quality work that our customers expect."
