all4pack 2016: Sonoco Presents Broad Range of Rigid Paperboard Containers

If you’re looking for environment-friendly, convenient and safe food packaging solutions, Sonoco’s rigid paperboard containers are the product of choice. The robust all-rounders are ideal not only for a broad variety of filling goods, but also offer numerous advantages with regard to recyclability, functionality and product protection.

From 14 to 17 November, visitors to this year’s all4pack (formerly Emballage) exhibition in Paris can see for themselves the advantages of rigid paperboard containers. In hall 7, booth H133, Sonoco Consumer Products Europe (operating two plants in France) will present e.g. a new rigid paperboard container featuring a recyclable sprinkler lid, versatile options for easy dosage of salt and sugar, and safe packaging solutions for highly sensible filling goods.

Sonoco’s rigid paperboard containers consist to a large extent of refined recycling paper, making them a particularly sustainable solution. Rigid paper containers with a diameter between 40 mm and 99 mm can additionally be equipped with a sealed-in cardboard bottom. At all4pack, the packaging specialist will now present an even more environmentally friendly version of its popular convenience packaging: A rigid paperboard container featuring a compostable Vegetop® sprinkler lid. The new packaging solution is the result of a joint endeavour by Sonoco and Vegeplast, a French company that specializes in biodegradable plastics. The package’s unique feature is its sprinkler lid made of Vegemat®, a plastic material made from 100 per cent biodegradable materials and fully compostable in accordance with the European standard EN 13432. The rigid paperboard container comes in two different sizes with a diameter of 60 or 73 millimetres. The variable height allows for adjustments according to the quantity of packed content. Thanks to its material properties, the container with Vegetop® sprinkler is particularly suitable for dietary supplements and dry foods such as grains, sugar or dry fruits. “Our new rigid paperboard container with Vegetop® combines the packaging expertise of Sonoco with innovative plastics technology. The result is a comprehensive, environmentally friendly solution which fully meets our costumers’ demands with regard to sustainability and convenience,” says Rolf Regelmann, Director Sales and Marketing at Sonoco Costumer Products.

Sprinkler lids are convenient for dosing free-flowing products such as salt or sugar. At all4pack Sonoco will showcase a comprehensive selection of rigid paperboard containers with different sprinkler lid versions. Beyond precise dosing, the shapely containers offer a crucial added value for retail and marketing. Thanks to their extensive potential for decorating, they have a high shelf presence and provide a vital competitive advantage. The rigid paperboard containers with sprinkler lids and integrated re-closures also provide ideal product and aroma protection. Rigid paperboard containers play an important role on the French market with its large salt segment: Companies such as Salins du Midi, Bioforce and Les Salines de Guérande distribute their premium salt products in the versatile containers.

With sensible products such as baby milk formula, barrier properties are of great importance. They ensure the safety of products that are particularly sensitive to oxygen. Sonoco’s rigid paperboard containers with Ultraseal® and Sealed Safe® meet these special requirements: Its special metal closure resembles that of commercial tin cans and reliably protects the content. The container’s spiral-wound body, aluminium inner lining, and tin bottom combine to protect the product. Sonoco even works to ensure maximum product protection during the manufacturing process, which takes place in a clean room with UV sterilization. “Especially when it comes to the manufacturing of rigid paper containers for infant food, we work according to the extremely high hygiene standards that we have developed for this particular packaging solution,” emphasizes Regelmann. “By doing so, we ensure that our products satisfy the highest quality standards.”
