Smurfit Kappa forestry project Colombia wins award for best environmental practices
BIBO is led by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and El Espectador, one of the main newspapers in Colombia, and supported by the Colombian Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
The awards publically recognise those companies that carry out the best environmental practices related to water, reforestation and resource management in Colombia.
The Company´s Forestry Project began operations in 1969 and its objective is to supply the raw materials required to manufacture board, paper and packaging. Today it operates in 35 municipalities in the states of Valle, Quindío, Risaralda, Caldas and Antioquia and the total forestry patrimony is made up of 69,300 hectares of which 21,500 are natural forests that are protected, studied and preserved.
The jury for the BIBO (Forestry Benefits and Services) award evaluates the care of forests and good environmental practices in relation to the management of water, conservation of species and contribution to carbon capture.
BIBO was acknowledged this year by the International Association of Media Marketing (INMA), as one of the three best marketing campaigns presented worldwide.
