New Rexam plant in Brazil starts production
Rexam’s new beverage can plant in Benevides, Greater Belém in the Brazilian state of Pará, has now started production.
The plant serves mainly the requirements of Brazil’s north and north east regions which have around a third of the country’s population and are the fastest growing regions in the country. The new plant will allow us to capture growth in standard cans and will also free up capacity to meet specialty can demand.
The new plant has an installed capacity of 0.8bn cans per year, which brings Rexam’s South American beverage can capacity to more than 14bn cans per year. We are well placed to capture further growth in Brazil as it prepares for the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013, the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the summer Olympics in 2016.
