Childproof eye-catcher: The new CR-Flip-Top desiccant packaging

23.05.2011

To keep things from getting into the wrong hands: Friedrich Sanner GmbH & Co. KG has presented CR-FlipTop (Child Resistant), an innovative tablet packaging design with integrated desiccant, at interpack 2011. The new "press-in push-up®" mechanism combines maximum child safety with easy handling. Thanks to its striking cap design, the desiccant packaging for tablets and capsules attracts attention at the point of sale (POS).

Pharmaceutical packaging has to be childproof and at the same time, easy to open for the elderly and those with restricted motor capability. With its newly-designed "press-in push-up®" mechanism, the CR-FlipTop meets these requirements – and more. To open the bottle, the user simply presses and tilts the cap. "Our cap offers clear advantages over the conventional press-and-twist versions. These are commonly used for large packs of tablets sold on markets in North America. The effort required to open the CR-FlipTop is significantly less – which makes the packaging much more user-friendly," explains Sanner Product Manager Ulla Hahn. "At the same time, the cap is childproof to ensure maximum safety." The CR-FlipTop is certified according to ISO 8137 (2003) and US 16 CFR § 1700.20 standards.

In addition to easy handling and added safety, the CR-FlipTop offers several advantages. The cap stays on the bottle, which means there is less danger of misplacing or losing it. This also reminds the user to close the bottle after use. There is also a tamper-proof seal, which eliminates the need for a separate foil membrane.

The packaging offers excellent barrier properties, while the desiccant integrated into the CR-FlipTop cap ensures moisture protection. Depending on the specific product requirements and ingredients, the desiccants used are silica gel, molecular sieves, or a combination of both. Each version reliably absorbs moisture and protects the product contents.

An integrated desiccant in the cap eliminates the need for desiccant capsules, sachets or canisters placed in the bottle. This not only increases user safety – by avoiding the danger of inadvertently swallowing the desiccant. It also reduces the steps necessary in the filling process. This is a particular advantage in the United States market, where tablets are often sold in large packs with desiccant capsules inside.

The one-piece CR-FlipTop is manufactured in a closed position. In high-speed filling systems, the cap is simply pressed onto the filled bottle in a simple press-on step.
