FEFCO Award: Mosca AG wins "best presentation" in seven minutes
A clearly defined concept with a convincing presence won the day. Staff from Gerd Mosca AG recently demonstrated their power of persuasion at the 16th Technical Seminar organized by FEFCO (European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers) from 23rd to 25th March in Munich.
Under the banner “Sustainability meets efficiency”, Alfred Kugler and Martin Müller won the award for the best presentation with their seven-minute, dialog-based presentation of the KCK 131-26 high-speed pallet packing press. Employing principles of sustainable operation, the press is capable of strapping and applying edge protection on up to 200 pallets per hour.
A group of 46 experts from the corrugated board sector presented their latest products and developments at the Technical Seminar in Munich, where a FEFCO assessment commission selected the three stand-out solutions with the most promising applications for corrugated board manufacture and processing. The award for best presentation was easily won by Alfred Kugler, Mosca Head of Marketing and Strategy, and Sales Director Martin Müller. The commission was impressed by the performance values of the new KCK 131-26 high-speed pallet packing press, with its sustainable approach, reflected in the clear concept of the speakers, presented under the “Sustainability meets efficiency” banner.
Thanks to a functional combination of individually tried and tested components, the press is capable of strapping up to 50 pallets more per hour than conventional strapping presses. The heart of the press is the SoniXs sealing unit that uses ultrasound to weld the strap ends. Mechanical oscillations are transmitted to the ends of the plastic strapping material under pressure, welding the ends together. This method gives the joint added strength, enabling the strapped goods to withstand higher transport stresses.
Electrical edge protection lowers energy costs compared with pneumatic systems used for the same purpose, since it eliminates the need to produce expensive compressed air. It also ensures extremely fast, accurate positioning and a high level of process reliability. The special high-speed drive with a redundant braking system significantly enhances process optimization. Press force is continuously adjustable and the speed of the drive is controlled by asynchronous servos. Using a split unwinding reel in continuous strap operation, the strap welder saves strapping material – and therefore cuts costs. The two-part split of the unwinding reel means that there is no longer any need for the operator to enter the security zone of the machine to change the strap. The strap rolls are quickly and easily changed from outside the security zone.
The combination of a wide range of different elements promotes highly efficient performance with outstanding environmental values – that’s why the KCK 131-26 carries the GET Inside technology label, identifying particularly efficient, environmentally friendly Mosca machines and products.
