IK Economic Trend – a further increase in costs and prices

The IK Economic Trend, an industry barometer for the plastics packaging industry, every quarter questions companies from all different plastics packaging segments on the most important economic parameters.

According to this survey, the companies in the plastics packaging industry expect a positive economic development for the first quarter of the year. After all, 60 percent of IK members judge the current economic situation as good. Correspondingly, the evaluation of their own turnover development is equally positive, with domestic demand having a decisive influence here.

Furthermore, the IK Economic Trend predicts rising prices for plastics packaging and raw materials. Over 60 percent of company representatives expect higher prices for their packaging. In the area of raw materials, it is a total of 72 percent expecting a price increase. Many IK members have lately been confronted with announcements of further drastic price increases. According to the association, companies have to compensate additional cost burdens apart from high raw material prices. The levy for electricity from renewable sources alone has been increased by 70 percent.

On the whole, manufacturers of plastics packaging sense an upswing, not least thanks to the continuing increase of demand for light-weight packaging conserving ressources.
