Amcor LifeSpan® – a new world of packaging for melons!
Amcor Flexibles Europe & Americas (AFEA) has expanded its Amcor LifeSpan® range with a new high MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transition Rate) liner for melons. Our MAP (Modified Atmosphere Package) innovation extends storage life and distribution time to keep melons fresh up to four times longer than conventional packaging methods.
Offering a wide range of benefits, Amcor LifeSpan® for melons not only extends the product shelf life by delaying the ripening and softening of the fruit, but offers excellent product visibility and a concentrated fruit aroma when opening the pack.
“Amcor LifeSpan® has been technically validated during two full melon seasons in Brazil and Central America. It is currently meeting success in Brazil and will soon be used in Costa Rica and Honduras,” says Stephane Heinry, Business Development Manager, AFEA Produce Overseas. Amcor LifeSpan® offers the melon industry a significant new innovation which revolutionizes the entire supply chain; allowing the shipment of Galia and Cantaloupe by boat from Brazil and Central America to the European and US markets.
Amcor LifeSpan®, already available for a wide variety of fresh produce, is a flexible carton liner that maintains the harvest-fresh quality of produce. The range encompasses different films, from standard polyethylene, through to the new VapourPlus® high MVTR ranges, which can also be supplied in a compostable material.
“The Amcor LifeSpan® compostable option could be used as an alternative to pack more mature fruit at source,” continues Stephane Heinry. “The pack is produced using a bio-plastic film; Amcor’s NaturePlus Materbi®. The beauty is that you can tailor the gas permeability for each application through the use of our Amcor P-Plus® perforation technology,” he added. The high MVTR properties of Amcor Materbi® or Amcor VapourPlus® prevent condensation which is known to encourage mould and bacterial growth during sea freight.
