Rexam appoints new Recycling Manager in the UK

Rexam Beverage Can has appointed Matthew Rowland-Jones as UK Recycling Manager to help strengthen Rexam’s ongoing advancements in sustainability and recycling.

A newly created role, the UK recycling manager will be responsible for facilitating initiatives that increase the recycling of beverage cans in the UK - a country with the largest can market in Europe, but a relatively low can recycling rate. Matthew’s role will provide resource and expertise in the area of developing and managing successful recycling programmes.

Through engaging with Rexam’s partners, who include local authorities, WRAP, waste management industry and recyclers, and indeed Rexam’s customers and suppliers, to deliver this agenda, Rexam can help to increase recycling rates. These initiatives can significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the beverage can.

Matthew joins Rexam with an extensive back ground in waste management and recycling within the UK local council arena. In south Oxfordshire District Council he was responsible for implementing programs to increase recycling rates. Most recently Matthew worked for AEA Technology, an environmental consulting company as a Project Manager helping companies reduce their environmental impact.

So if we increase recycling rates here in the UK, we will make a real impact in reducing the environmental footprint of the can.”
