CFN Packaging expansion plans

10.06.2008

UK family firm CFN Packaging has injected a quarter of a million pounds to improve its premises in Skegness Lincolnshire.

The packaging company is consolidating its activities on two sites and plans to increase the size of one of its factories by 50%.

It will extend the size of the main factory and office complex from 14,000 sq feet to 22,000 sq feet.

The move follows a £1m investment in two polythene extruders and a new recycler, which allows the firm to reuse its own waste and produce recycled plastic bags on site.

The family firm, which manufactures polythene products for the packaging trade, aims to change industry attitudes by persuading clients to switch to Biothene.

Biothene is a degradable form of polythene which starts to degrade upon exposure to sunlight.

The process is accelerated by heat and once the material has been broken down into small particles these degrade biologically into a non-toxic residue within 12 to 18 months.

CFN packaging director Jayson Clark said: “These new facilities will allow us to achieve British Retail Consortium Food Approved status, which will help us attract more business and open up new markets.”

However, work to extend one of the buildings – providing two storeys of factory space – is subject to planning consent
