RPC plans closure of Hereford site
UK packaging firm RPC Group has taken the first step towards closing its Hereford site and transferring the production of PP rigid plastic containers to other plants.
Employees at the site were told on Tuesday that the company would be entering into a consultation period with the workforce “with a view to closing operations at Hereford and to consolidating its injection moulding and thermoforming business into other RPC Group sites,” a company statement read.
The group said that despite the efforts of the staff and investment into new business it had not been possible to bring Hereford into sustainable profit.
The closure of the plant based on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate could lead to the loss of 150 jobs.
The company said it regrets having to propose the closure and the potential effects on its employees, and will help them to find alternative employment.
RPC Group acquired the Hereford site from Rexam in 2004, as part of a £16.2m deal that included three other European plants (see PRW.com 15 March 2004).
