The Russian market of PE extrusion coatings in 2006

According to the assessments of MRC, the PE consumption in the market of extrusion coatings constituted 60 KT in 2006.

The market includes two principally different sectors: steel pipes and packaging.At the same time, more than 80% are used in the production of steel pipes with antirust coating.

We refer the significant growth of polyethylene supplies for coating of steel pipes with big diameters in 2006 to the beginning of the construction of a new gas main under the project of Nord Stream.

Borealis is the leader in the market of coatings today; it provides the biggest supplies of HDPE and MDPE in the sector of steel pipes (Borcoat НЕ 3450 and Borcoat ME 0420 brands). Borealis works with the biggest manufacturer in this sector – Vyksunsk Metallurgical and Volzhskiy Pipe Plants.

According to MRC, we can mark out four companies in the sector of packaging that use polyethylene in extrusion coating: Tetra Pak, Lambumiz, Elopak and Molopak.
