UK food packaging firm continues rapid growth

07.02.2005

UK food packaging specialist Sirane has marked its third year of operations with the successful development and launch of over 10 new products.

The company manufactures a range of food packaging and processing products, including the first absorbent pad designed for direct-to-oven packaged foods, grill pads for clean and quick grilling, and a range of absorbent pads for use in packaging.

Founded in 2003 by Simon Balderson and Ian Beardsall, formerly of Sealed Air, the company now employs 20 people and turnover approaches Ј1.5m (E2.2m).

Made using a proprietary process, its pads consist of a pure absorbent material with a single polymer film thermally bonded to the top surface. No adhesives or bonding layers are used.

Most of the products end up in major supermarkets, and its customers include major food groups such as Bernard Matthews, distributors, and other packaging firms including Linpac.

Throughout its developments the company has been supported by The Polymer Cluster, the Telford-based agency that supports the polymer industry in the Wolverhampton Telford Technology Corridor.

Balderson said: “We’ve worked hard seeking new business opportunities and, with help from the Polymer Cluster, expanded both our product range and customer base.”
