Rexam’s St. Paul Facility Secures $5,500 for Local Charity
The Rexam aluminum can manufacturing facility in St. Paul, Minn., has been awarded first place in the 2008 Aluminum Can Council's (ACC) Aluminum Can Recycling Challenge, as well as top prize in Rexam's company-wide recycling contest.
These efforts helped earn a $5,000 cheque which Rexam executives presented to the plant. It will be donated to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. The plant also received a $500 cheque from the ACC which will go to the same charity.
The ACC's national competition challenges all aluminum suppliers and can manufacturers' locations across the country to collect the most volume of recycled cans per employee from 1 September to 15 November. The Rexam St. Paul plant worked closely with its local community to collect 1,371 pounds of recycled aluminum cans per employee for an outstanding total of 143,957 pounds of recycled cans.
"We are very proud of our St. Paul facility for its outstanding efforts in leading its community to demonstrate how easy it is to recycle," said Harry Barto, president and CEO, Rexam Beverage Can North America. "We want to thank the people of St. Paul for embracing these types of efforts, teaming with local business to do what's right for the environment, and showing that we do, indeed, produce the most recycled beverage package in the world."
