Chesapeake install UK’s most sophisticated Heidelberg packaging print press

Chesapeake Branded Packaging has announced the installation of the UK’s most sophisticated Heidelberg packaging print press.

Chesapeake Newcastle will take delivery of a Speedmaster XL 105-8+LYYL, an eight unit straight press with twin coaters, in June 2010. The press, which is the third to be announced by Chesapeake within the last two months, will serve customers primarily in the premium food and confectionery sectors. It will allow the operation to continue to offer its customers the very best production options and to further develop the site’s impressive array of finishes and effects.

The Newcastle site which currently operates with MAN Roland and Komori presses has this time turned to Heidelberg. George Clarke, managing director of Heidelberg UK, says: "The XL 105 specified by Chesapeake is one of the most advanced presses supplied to a packaging company in the UK. The eight units and double coaters will provide the company with fantastic flexibility. This will be evident in the products they can supply, the depth of colour and range of specials and finishes they can offer. It is enormously productive.

"It has closed loop colour control with interface workflow between prepress and press. This together with Image Control, one of Heidelberg’s top of the range spectral measurement devices, ensures colour is adjusted throughout a run and from run-to-run. This is also the first installation in the UK of Inspection Control which ensures high quality throughout the run as it automatically checks for any inconsistencies."
