Sudpack presents packaging innovations at IFFA

15.04.2010

Sudpack has announced plans to showcase a new packaging innovation at the upcoming IFFA international meat fair next month.

Sudpack will present a solution to also enable fresh meat packages to be opened fast, easily and without aids. As a further innovation, Südpack will show printed non-woven materials that stand out from the crowd at the point of sale. The EcoSteam and EcoVent convenience solutions for microwave dishes, multilayered high barrier plastic foils as an alternative to preserves and the new generation of coextruded, high-performance flexible films round off the trade fair appearance.

Packaging that is easy to open, without a knife or scissors, is standard these days for most foods. But with fresh meat trays, it was not possible, until now, to combine the requirements for the highest levels of seal safety while allowing the packaging to be easily opened. This difficult balancing act has been accomplished with SafePeel TT, the new innovation for trays with PP sealing medium. “Safety is of prime importance with fresh meat packaging. Our goal was to offer this and still create a package which could be opened easily without requiring an aid. Our new development, SafePeel TT, satisfies both requirements equally,” says Johannes Remmele, Managing Director of Südpack Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG.

The second IFFA innovation – a printed non-woven material composite – is aimed at making Südpack customers the winners at the Point of Sale. Remmele puts it like this, “We want to help our customers to stand out from the crowd.” Non-woven materials and paper composites have always been well received by the consumer because of their natural tactile properties; it is now possible to design the packaging even more individually by printing these materials. “Here, we offer our customers a certain added value because, together with our high levels of competence in flexo and rotogravure printing techniques, no wishes are left unfulfilled,” explains Remmele.

The new generation of flexible films, such as the Multifol-NT series, the alternative solutions for preserves “Barrier Lid” and ecoterm SAV, as well as the resealable Multipeel, round off the Südpack range of products at IFFA. “With all our packaging solutions, we consider not only high quality, excellent production possibilities, a super appearance and consumer-friendliness, but also sustainability. We have just recently had great success with thin flexible films such as Multifol GA 150 NT. It enables customers in the meat industry to reduce their material consumption by up to 25 percent. This does not only mean commercial advantages but also helps to protect the environment since less energy is required for production and transport costs and emissions are reduced,” explains Johannes Remmele.
