Interpack-2008: Blister Packs Formed by Thermoforming Machines - Tightly Sealed With Additional Benefits

28.04.2008

With Multivac’s thermoforming machines, blister packs can be manufactured for industrial and consumer items. The procedure offers multiple advantages: individual package design, a reliably tight seal and various options for labeling. In Hall 5 Stand C 23 / D 24 visitors can learn more about this technique.

Reliably Tight and Tamper-Evident

Inherently stable packaging trays are thermoformed from a rigid bottom film and sealed after the product has been loaded, either with a second film or a sealable carton. The high sealing pressure with even distribution in the sealing die ensure hermetically tight packages. This prevents the product inside from dehydration, which, for example, is important when packing cartridges for inkjet printers. In addition, the tight seals offer tamper-evident protection against manipulation or even removal of the product from the package. The hermetic seal is especially important for packages containing products with scented ingredients. This is essentially the only way to guarantee that the package remains scent-free on the shelf. Additionally, the atmosphere in the package can be modified before sealing. These characteristics are combined with the individual design options available with thermoforming technology: high precision in forming the package moulds, large range of possible film widths and cut-off lengths as well as possible mould depths and different forming procedures allow for optimal adaptation to your packaging tasks.

Upright on the Shelf

The blister pack with a “shelf base”, which Multivac has implemented on its machines, is a combination of design and function. The semirigid bottom web is formed in such a way that the package stands upright on the shelf by itself. This enables a high-quality presentation at the point of sale with an unrestricted view of the product. The expensive presentation box can be eliminated, which reduces packaging cost, enhances environmental sustainability and uses the shelf space in the best possible way. The package can be produced on either R 245 or R 535 thermoforming machines. Modified lifting systems for the forming dies make a tapered undercut, to later enable an upright position. At Interpack, Multivac will demonstrate this technique on a packaging line with the R 245 thermoformer.
